Brace

A brace is an aid that compensates for loss of function of body parts and/or provides protection against (further) damage. A brace can be made of flexible fabric, hard plastic, or metal. There are braces for different body parts and joints.

A brace usually has a supportive function. In the event of damage to muscles, tendons, joints, or ligaments, it can compensate for any instability.

Braces are also used to give tendons or joints rest, similar to a cast. Unlike a cast, a brace is removable and usually does not have to be worn 24 hours a day. You often only wear it during strenuous activities. Ask a physical therapist for advice.
