Occupational physical therapy
An occupational or workplace physical therapist ensures that symptoms that arise at work or are looming on the work floor are addressed.
Occupational physical therapy (also called industrial physical therapy) is used to prevent and treat work-related complaints. The therapist does this, for example, by giving advice about working posture, workstation setup, and the type of activities a person performs. This can take place both on an individual basis and at group level.
Treatment by an occupational physical therapist
When complaints have already developed, the occupational physical therapist will also help address them. To treat complaints, they can use all kinds of methods such as exercise therapy, counseling, and mobilizing techniques for the joints.
The ultimate goal of occupational physical therapy is to ensure that the employee can return to work in a responsible manner and to keep absenteeism as short as possible.
To gain the best possible picture of the work situation, an occupational physical therapist will regularly be present on the work floor and collaborate with the employer, primary care physician, and occupational health physician.
