Home elevator

A home elevator is an elevator that carries people from one floor of a house to another. This is ideal for people who use a wheelchair or for people with limited mobility for whom a stairlift is not suitable. With a home elevator it is possible to live independently at home for longer.

What does a home elevator look like?

A home elevator strongly resembles the passenger elevators found in, for example, office or apartment buildings. But the home elevator is much smaller. It has to be if it is to be installed in an ordinary house. There is usually only limited space available there.

An elevator for every house?

Home elevators are available with and without a shaft. For an elevator without a shaft, fewer invasive adjustments to the house are needed. It also takes up less space and is cheaper.

To install a home elevator with a shaft, more invasive renovations to the house are needed. The shaft itself already takes up quite a bit of space. In addition, there must also be enough space left to enter and exit the elevator with a wheelchair or rollator.

It is not always possible to build a home elevator into existing houses. Of course, this is something that can be taken into account when constructing a new house. Removing the elevator is also not so easy. The shaft remains in the house.

To see whether it is possible to install a home elevator, it is wise to have a technician come by. They will discuss your wishes and look at the possibilities.

Another option is to purchase a stair lift. This is cheaper, easier to install, and takes up less space. A stair lift is not suitable for transporting wheelchairs or rollators.
